The University of Toledo Ice Hockey Team is very proud to announce that following months of careful consideration, Brent Figueira Sr. has been selected as the team’s new head coach. Coach Figueira comes to the team after spending the last 27 years coaching in the Cleveland area. Most recently, he has lead the Avon Lake High School program, rebuilding the team in the tough upper red division and expanding the program to include a JV team. Under Figueira, Avon Lake has also seen tremendous growth in the support it receives from the local community, something which the coach and the team hopes to see carried over to Toledo.
Before taking over at Avon Lake, Coach Figueira also coached various AAA programs, served as a consultant to the USA Hockey Mid-Am council, and ran the entire youth hockey program in Euclid, Ohio. Outside of hockey, Coach Figueira has been a member of the Euclid Police Department for the last 23 years where he is now a senior officer and detective.
This experience, along with his playing experience as a junior player in Canada and on Kent State’s club team, have given the coach a wealth of hockey knowledge that the Rockets are very excited about. His veteran presence behind the bench should translate well and help guide the young team.
