Cincinnati Recap

The semester got off to a rough start for the Rockets as they traveled to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats January 14th and 15th.  After the long holiday break, the team definitely showed some rust as they dropped both games.

Friday night, senior defenseman Andrew Hess and sophomore forward Scott Girardi were the lone goal scorers as the Rockets fell 3-2. Hess also added an assist on Girardi’s goal for a two point game. Sophomore goaltender Kerry Schwable averaged a 0.900 save percentage on the night.

Saturday night didn’t treat the Rockets much better as penalties and bad bounces took their toll.  After giving up two goals in the first, senior Andrew Hess was baited into taking a spearing penalty resulting in a five minute major and a game ejection.  The Rockets never fully recovered giving up three goals on the extend man advantage and a total of nine in the period.  The team was able to regroup and put some points of its own on the board in the third but the damage had already been done.

Toledo travels to Robert Morris University (Chicago, IL) January 21st and 22nd. They then return to Tam-O-Shanter Arena for a three game weekend against Adrian, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia January 27th-29th.
