TSCHL PLAYOFF CHAMPIONS!

You won’t find Toledo among the ranked teams in the ACHA’s DII Southeast Region, but the Rockets' finish to their season ranks right up there with those of Penn State or any of the other clubs headed to nationals.

The Rockets defeated the TSCHL’s defending playoffs champion, Dayton, 10-5 in the championship game of the 2012 Playoffs to finish the season with 14 wins in their last 15 games.

Only Penn State’s end to the regular season — the Ice Lions won 21 consecutive games — topped Toledo’s 2011-12 exit among DII teams in the Southeast Region.

The Rockets’ latest triumph was largely a Chris Easton production. Easton scored four goals and assisted on two others in the finale. For that, he took home the playoffs’ Most Valuable Player Award.

The Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the game, but Toledo carried a 2-1 lead into the locker room at period’s end and stretched its advantage to 3-1 early in the second period.

Dayton countered with a goal on a penalty shot to close to within 3-2, but the Rockets exploded for three goals to surge to a 6-2 lead. Back came the Flyers with three goals of their own to pull within 7-5 after the second period.

Toledo secured the win with three third-period goals.
