The University of Toledo Hockey team is very proud to announce the additions of two coaches to its staff for the 2013-2014 season. Recent UT graduates and former players Daniel Conway and Craig Trego will be joining the staff and assisting Matt Bollinger during his third year as the Rocket’s head coach.
Craig Trego is a product of the Sylvania Northview High School program and played two years for UT after transferring from Illinois. During those two years, the stand-out goalie produced a 26-13 record with a cumulative GAA of 3.55 and a save percentage of 89%. Trego served as the backbone of a Rockets team that won back-to-back TSCHL Playoff Championships, one regular season TSCHL Championship, and earned an ACHA Regional berth during the 2012-2013 season. In doing so, Craig also earned second team all-conference honors and was named the TSCHL Playoff MVP during his senior year. Trego has previously coached Northview’s goalies and will be joining the UT staff in the same role.
Daniel Conway has also had a very accomplished career with the UT Rockets. In four years with the Rockets, the versatile defenseman posted career totals of 25 goals and 47 assists in 107 games played. Daniel was a key component of the Rocket’s special team units and earned all-conference honors twice. More importantly though, Daniel provided tremendous leadership, proudly wearing the captain’s “C” for his final two years at UT. Having played AAA hockey for the Columbus Blue Jackets prior to coming to UT, Daniel is no stranger to high-caliber hockey and hopes to continue building on the Rocket’s recent success. As he pursues his master’s degree at UT, Daniel will join the staff as the director of player development and an in-game assistant to Coach Bollinger.
General Manager Greg Urig had this to say about the recent additions, “The staff of the UT Hockey team is very excited to welcome these two new coaches. We look forward to having both Craig and Daniel still involved with the program. Both have been instrumental in helping UT to its current level of success and we have no doubt they will help us continue to grow.”
The Rockets will get their season underway September 6-8 when they hold their open tryouts at the Team Toledo Ice House. After a road trip to start the season, the Rockets will hold their home opener October 4th against the University of Michigan. The team’s complete schedule will be released later this month.
