ROCKETS ADD NCAA VETERAN TO STAFF
8/12/2023by G. Urig

The University of Toledo Hockey team is very excited to announce the addition of Grant Meyer to the coaching staff effective immediately.  Grant will be joining Head Coach Kyle Measles and Assistant Coaches Craig Trego and Anthony Holley whom will all be returning for the 2023-2024 season.

Grant comes to UT after finishing his playing career at Canisius College where he was a four year  member of the NCAA D1 program.  Grant was named captain of the Canisius team his senior year and helped lead them to an appearance in the Atlantic Hockey Championship.  During his time at Canisus he played in 105 games scoring 18 goals and picking up 48 assists.

Prior to his time at Canisus, Grant played junior hockey with stops in both the United States Hockey League (USHL) and North American Hockey League (NAHL).  He also has experience with AAA hockey spending several years with the Cleveland Barons before making the jump to juniors.  Along the way, Grant has always shown a natural leadership ability, serving as a captain not only at Canisius but for several of the other teams he previously played for.

Grant’s combination of leadership, playing experience, and hockey IQ will make him a very valuable asset to the Rockets as they look to build on another strong season.  Despite a regular season record of 11-16, the 2022-2023 team achieved the highest national ranking the program has ever earned.  That marks the 3rd straight year of ranking improvement.  The 2022-2023 schedule also featured 12 games against teams that appeared in the 2023 ACHA National Championship Tournament.  That strength of schedule will continue to improve as the Rockets move into the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey Conference (GLCHL) for the 2023-2024 season.

As he joins the staff, Grant will be given the primary responsibility of working with the team’s forwards.  In a corresponding move, Anthony Holley will assume responsibility of the defensemen.
